1. PM Modi will visit Mumbai and Palghar in Maharashtra.During the visit, Prime Minister will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone


2.Union minister Piyush Goyal  flagged off the Bandra Terminus-Madgaon inaugural service from Borivali Station in Mumba. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw participated in the event through video conferencing. 


3.  Union Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Kirti Vardhan Sing inaugurated the ASSOCHAM Environment and Carbon Conference in New Delhi. The theme of the conference is ‘Fostering a collaborative ecosystem for achieving net zero by 2070’.


4. The Tripura Government has declared entire state as Natural Calamity Affected Area , even as the inter-ministerial central team (IMCT) is conducting on the spot assessments in the most affected places. 


5.  Andhrapradesh YSR Congress Party’s  Rajya Sabha MPs Beedha Masthan Rao Yadav and Mopidevi  Venkataramana Raohave tendered their resignation from the membership of the Rajya Sabha. These resignations reduce YSR Congress Party’s representation in the Rajya Sabha to nine MPs, with four members remaining in the Lok Sabha.


6. Assam passes new Muslim marriage Bill: On Thursday, the Assembly passed the Assam Repealing Bill, 2024 to repeal the1935 Act. It then passed the Assam Compulsory Registration of Muslim Marriages and Divorces Bill, 2024 to replace the old Act.


7.  Noida International Airport, also known as Jewar Airport, is rapidly being constructed and is set to become Asia's largest and the world's fourth-largest airport. It is gearing up to welcome its first flight in April 2025.


8. The BJP's Central Election Committee (CEC) convened on Thursday to finalise candidates for the Haryana Assembly elections.The CEC has finalised over 50 candidates. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini is reportedly a potential contender for the Ladwa seat.


9.  In Bihar, Janata Dal (United), a key ally of the BJP, on Thursday joined the growing Opposition demand for a "caste census" to be discussed by the Parliament's Committee on Welfare of Other Backward Classes (OBCs). The call for a caste census was initially raised by DMK member T.R. Baalu during the first meeting of the committee, which was chaired by BJP member Ganesh Singh.


10. Chhattisgarh chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Thursday unveiled a scheme envisaging interest free loan for the students in Leftwing extremism (LWE)-affected districts in the state to pursue technical and professional courses. The maximum loan amount to be given under the scheme has been fixed at Rs four lakh per student. 


11. The Punjab Government on Thursday decided to amend The Punjab Panchayat Rules to ensure no one contests the elections for sarpanch and panch on party symbol.The decision was taken at a meeting of the Punjab Council of Ministers, chaired by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. 


12. Guwahati to Itanagar flights by Alliance Air, operating with Dornier aircraft 4 times a week and Itanagar to Guwahati flight thrice a week. This will further give a significant boost to regional connectivity, making travel more convenient and fostering growth in Arunachal Pradesh. 


13. Manipur's Kuki-Zo groups demand separate UT with legislature:  Calling the ongoing crisis in Manipur "premeditated" and "state-sponsored", representatives from the Kuki-Zo communities on Thursday demanded that a separate Union Territory with legislature should be carved out of the ethnic strife-torn state. 


14.  Former J&K chief minister and National Conference vice-president Omar Abdullah on Thursday defended his decision to contest assembly elections in the Union Territory , citing the need to form a united front against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).


Responding to Peoples Democratic Party chief and former CM Mehbooba Mufti’s dig at him taking a “U-turn”, he said those making such comments have themselves given mandates to their relatives to contest, adding, “If they are blaming me for changing my principles, they should have themselves stayed away from the election process.” Notably, Mufti’s daughter Iltija is set to make her electoral debut in the assembly polls from the family bastion of Bijbehara. 


15. In 2025, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) plans to launch the Gaganyaan mission, featuring an uncrewed robot called Vyomitra.* This robot, known as a half-humanoid, is designed to help with tasks in space. 

  • Vyomitra will operate the controls, monitor systems inside the spacecraft, and communicate with mission control on Earth. This will help ISRO gather important information about how space travel affects humans.


LEGAL REPORT

1.  The Reserve Bank of India has issued a warning against fraudulent activities involving the misuse of its name. The RBI stated that fraudsters employ various tactics, including fake letterheads and email addresses, impersonating RBI employees, and luring individuals with fictitious offers such as lottery winnings, fund transfers, foreign remittances, and government schemes. 


2. The Enforcement Directorate has attached immovable properties of land worth over 834 crore rupees of Emaar India Limited and MGF Developments Limited.The attached land are located in Gurugram and Delhi spanning over 401 acres. The investigation focuses on allegations of money laundering related to a plotted colony in Sectors 65 and 66 of Gurgaon involving both companies.


3.  In Chhattisgarh, three female Maoists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Narayanpur district. 


4. In West Bengal, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted polygraph tests on two security guards, who were posted at the 4th floor of the R G Kar Medical College and Hospital on the 9th of August . The body of the R G Kar Medical College PGT trainee doctor was found inside a seminar hall on the 4th floor. 


5. The Government has allowed the Union Public Service Commission to perform Aadhaar based authentication to verify candidates' identity on a voluntary basis. It has been allowed at the time of registration and during various stages of examinations and recruitment. The decision came in the wake of cancelling of the provisional candidature of Puja Khedkar and debaring her from all future examinations for fraudulently availing attempts in the Civil Services Examination beyond eligibility by faking her identity.


6.  At least three terrorists were killed in two separate encounters in two different anti-infiltration operations along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district. Director General of Police of the Jammu and Kashmir Police RR Swain said.


7. The Delhi high court on Thursday refused to quash the defamation proceedings against Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on a complaint over his alleged 'scorpion on Shivling' remark targeting PM Modi, saying prima facie the imputations against a PM are 'despicable and deplorable.'


8. A forest department team of Uttar Pradesh captured on Thursday a fully grown male wolf under its 'Operation Bhediya', launched to capture a pack of wolves on the prowl in Mehsi tehsil of Bahraich district that has so far killed seven people. 


9.  Telangana CM Revanth's Brother Faces Encroachment Notice: Within 24 hours of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy declaring that he would oversee the demolition of his relatives’ houses if they were found to be in the full tank level (FTL) or buffer zones of water bodies, the revenue department issued notices to his brother Anumula Tirupati Reddy on Thursday stating his house and office were in the buffer zone of the Durgam Cheruvu.

1.  Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry FICCI yesterday organised the first edition of Young Leader Awards in New Delhi. 


2.  During Reliance Industries’ 47th Annual General Meeting (AGM), Chairman Mukesh Ambani announced a groundbreaking development in the field of artificial intelligence. The company’s telecom arm, Reliance Jio, is set to launch a comprehensive suite of AI tools and applications called ‘Jio Brain’. It is designed to cover the entire artificial intelligence lifecycle, offering a range of tools and applications for businesses and enterprises. 


3. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has unveiled its fifth TCS Pace Studio in Manila, Philippines, aiming to drive digital innovation across the Asia-Pacific region. This new facility is part of the broader TCS Pace ecosystem, which includes Pace Studios in Riyadh, Sydney, Letterkenny, and Stockholm, as well as Pace Ports in Tokyo, Amsterdam, New York, Pittsburgh, Toronto, London, and Paris.


4.   The holding company of the Shriram Group, has appointed Subhasri as its new Managing Director and CEO, effective 1 September.

6. Gautam Adani replaces Mukesh Ambani as wealthiest Indian:  Recouping the dent caused by the Hindenburg Research report, Gautam Adani's net worth shot up 95 per cent to Rs 11.6 lakh crore last year, which helped him replace Mukesh Ambani to become the richest Indian, a report said on Thursday.


Reliance Industries Chairman and Managing Director Ambani's overall net worth increased by 25 per cent to Rs 10.14 lakh crore, as per the 2024 Hurun India Rich List.

Women actors from the Malayalam film industry and their registered forum, the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC), have called for reformative action by the state beyond the constitution of the seven-member panel to probe sexual misconduct by fellow male actors. 

DEFENCE News

1.  Vice Admiral CR Praveen Nair, NM took over as Commandant, Indian Naval Academy on 29 Aug 24. He succeeds Vice Admiral Vineet McCarty. The Flag Officer was commissioned into the Indian Navy (IN) on 01 July 1991. 


2.  India formally commissioned into service its second nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine (SSBN) INS Arighaat — Sanskrit for destroyer of enemies— in Visakhapatnam where it was built and tested. Arighaat joins service with India’s Strategic Forces Command (SFC) eight years after the lead submarine of its class INS Arihant was commissioned in 2016.


3. The Indian Ministry of Defence (MoD) has imposed a strict ban on the use of Chinese components in military drones, a move reflecting the government's growing concern over national security vulnerabilities. On June 25, the Ministry's Department of Defence Production (DDP) issued a letter to key industry bodies, including FICCI, Assocham, and the Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers (SIDM), urging them to warn their members about the risks of using Chinese parts. 


4. A joint technical committee headed by the Indian Navy is being formed to investigate the reasons for collapse of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue at Sindhudurg in Maharashtra.Apart from Navy officials, the committee will comprise representatives from the state government and technical experts. The Indian Navy said in a statement that the statue was unveiled on 4th December last year as part of the Navy Day celebrations.

INTERNATIONAL NEWS

 1. The University Grants Commission handed over a Letter of Intent to the University of Southampton, which will establish a campus in India under National Education Policy 2020.UGC Chairman M Jagadesh Kumar handed over the letter in New Delhi in the presence of External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar. 


2. India has reaffirmed its commitment to work closely with Pacific partner countries and the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF).At the PIF Dialogue Partners' Session in Tonga, the Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita announced that India will fund 'Quick Impact Projects' worth 50,000 dollars each in all 14 Pacific island countries. 


3. On August 28, 2024, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant awarded Indian citizenship to Joseph Francis Pereira, a 78-year-old Pakistani Christian, under the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA). This marks the first instance of a Goan receiving citizenship through this amendment. Background of Joseph Francis Pereira Joseph Pereira, originally from Paroda village in South Goa, traveled to Pakistan for studies before India’s liberation. 


4. External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar received Director General Yaakov Blitshtein of Israel yesterday in New Delhi. In a social media post, Dr Jaishankar said that both sides noted the continued development of India-Israel cooperation and exchanged views on the ongoing situation in the Middle East.


5. The Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources of Bangladesh has issued a clarification, regarding rumours circulating on social media since 25 August which claimed that Bangladesh had been exporting gas to India through pipelines.According to these claims, the previous Awami League government used to export gas to India through pipelines which was allegedly halted by the current interim administration.

1.The WHO has declared Dhulikhel Municipality of Kavrepalanchok district as Nepal’s first ‘healthy city and second healthiest city in Asia. Since 2014, Dhulikhel Municipality has implemented various programmes to achieve the status. 


2. Typhoon Shanshan, which made its landfall  in the Japanese prefecture of Kagoshima,has brought heavy rain and strong winds that left three people dead, 82 injured and one missing.


3. An initiative launched by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, ‘Bring Kids Back UA’, has urged the release of all Ukrainian children detained in Russia during the ongoing conflict in the region. Presenting its first White Paper titled ‘Safeguarding Children from Forced Transfers and Deportation’ earlier this week.

2.  Karthik Venkataraman won the 61st edition of the Indian National Championship after scoring 9/11 points at the event organised by the Haryana Chess Association. This is the second victory in a national championship for Karthik, who had also won the tournament in 2022.


3.  *Bangladesh has been crowned the new champion of the SAFF (South Asian Football Federation) U-20 Championship football tournament after defeating hosts Nepal by 4-1 in the finals*. This is the first time that Bangladesh has won this Championship.

FACTS ABOUT INDIA

Kerala is a state on the southwestern Malabar Coast of India. It was formed on 1 November 1956. The Chera Dynasty was the first prominent kingdom based in Kerala. there were two major princely states in Kerala- Travancore State and the Kingdom of Cochin. They united to form the state of Thiru-Kochi in 1949.

Kerala is also called Parasurama Kshetram

 The name Kerala has an uncertain etymology. One popular theory derives "Kerala" from "Kera" (coconut tree in Malayalam) and "alam" is land, thus " *land of coconuts",* locals.The word Kerala is first recorded as Keralaputra in a 3rd-century BCE rock inscription left by the maurya emperor ashoka (274–237 BCE).


The production of pepper and natural rubber contributes significantly to the total national output. In the agricultural sector, coconut, tea, coffee, cashew and spices are important.
